Going Round
A Two-Day Weekend in Clay
Spend two inspiring days exploring round shapes on the potter’s wheel! Going Round is an immersive, hands-on workshop designed to help seasoned beginners and intermediate potters strengthen their throwing skills, explore new forms, and discover greater confidence and freedom at the wheel. Julia will suggest how much clay to use with each potter based on their skill level. See skill requirements below under "Workshop Details".
Throughout the weekend, participants will work with a variety of wheel-thrown forms while focusing on the fundamentals that make throwing more successful, centering, pulling, shaping, altering, stretching, and refining. Through demonstrations, individual guidance, and plenty of time at the wheel, students will explore how simple cylinders can become different forms of round vessels.
More than simply making pots, this workshop is about developing a deeper relationship with clay. We’ll explore integrity of the line, proportion, form, movement, and the subtle choices that give a handmade pot its character.
Come prepared to make lots of pots, learn something new, and enjoy a lively Weekend in Clay centered around the magic of the potter’s wheel.
